Sapienza University of Rome is a public, autonomous and free university. It was founded in 1303 and it is the largest University in Europe. The Department Metodi e Modelli per l’Economia, il Territorio e la Finanza (MEMOTEF) ( is part of the Faculty of Economics and includes the following disciplines: Economic Geography, Statistics, Demography, Historical Economy and Mathematics. The Department has a long experience of inter-disciplinary research through qualitative and, mostly, quantitative methodologies, with a focus on local development, urban competitiveness, regional policies, geographic information systems and spatial analysis.
